lyrics
- 3. someday
- 13. train to nowhere
someday
(Cale, Walt Richmond)
Someday she’ll be here
And that’s a fact
Someday she'll be coming right back
Maybe I’m dreaming
I hope it’s not so
'Cause someday she’s coming back I know
You know I’m ready, to see her again
When that someday will never end
When she left with no goodbye
I was stuck with those lonely nights
You know what I means
It’s always the same
Ain’t no medicine for that kind of pain
Someday comes, it goes away
Bringing me a better day
Ain’t no pity
Ain’t no shame
I hope that someday will come again
Maybe I’m dreaming
I hope it’s not so
Somedays' coming, it’s coming I know
Maybe I’m dreaming
I hope it’s not so
Somedays' coming, it’s coming I know

train to nowhere
(J.J. Cale)
There is a train that goes to nowhere
Need no ticket for you to ride
Put you in a car they call the sleeper
It's nice and warm inside
Your days are never numbered
Your nights don't matter now
Your time is no longer counted
This train has got you now
Once onboard you can't get off
Distance fades from view
There'll be no friends with you now
The ride is just for you
Train that goes to nowhere
You can ride - You can ride
Train that goes to nowhere
You can ride - You can ride
You can't sit down - You can't stand up
No one will ever show
The things that used to be so real
Have vanished from your soul
Train that goes to nowhere
You can ride - You can ride
Train that goes to nowhere
You can ride - You can ride
The goal is never what it is - The goal will never be
The light stays dim a long time now - It's hard for you to see
Talk about the pathway - Way beyond your sight
Another time another mind - That is the way of life
Train that goes to nowhere
You can ride - You can ride
Wanna know what it is - What it's gonna be
Ride this train nowhere now - Only you and me
Train that goes to nowhere
You can ride - You can ride
Train that goes to nowhere
You can ride - It's warm inside
Train that goes to nowhere
You can ride - You can ride
Train that goes to nowhere
You can ride - You can ride

Taken from the book (BoxSet):
...
As for Mark Knopfler, Clapton nods. "He had also been floating in the air from day one. Mark's thing was very influenced by JJ, inspired by him. When we came to finish work in England, we had to record in Mark's studio, so I thought, 'The decision is made.' I was going to sing 'The Train To Nowhere,' but I didn't feel right about it. I don't know why - maybe because it was in a low key. I asked Mark, and he was - just like that. So it all seemed to resolve itself without too much hassle."
