Foundation of the German Haiku Society

The German Haiku-Society was founded in 1988. Its initiators were scholars, authors and the first German Master of Renga, Professor Carl Heinz Kurz from Göttingen and Margret Buerschaper MA from Vechta. Seven more friends of short poetry joined the foundation meeting. 
Most of the members of the German Haiku Society come from Austria, Switzerland and Germany. Some Haiku friends are from Croatia, France, Italy, Israel, Netherlands, the USA and Japan. The membership waver between 210 and 230.
 
The GHS publishes a seasonal magazine (Vierteljahresschrift/VJS), anthologies, special editions, ( e.g. an edition to the tenth anniversary of the German Haiku Society) and calendars. All two years, at Whit Sun, a congress takes place about short poetry. All member may attend the lectures and readings or join the workshops, an Ikebana presentation and Haiku walking tours. Some members of the GHS combine in regional working pools: Haiku group Frankfurt/M (Leading: Erika Schwalm), Haiku group Magdeburg/Schönebeck (Leading: Wolfgang Dobberitz), Haiku group Halle/Saale (Leading: Christa Beau), Haiku group Ahlen(Leading: Elke Rehkemper).
